FIRE DESTROYS HOPES OF A HAPPY CHRISTMAS

Brandy Martin had only been home a few minutes Saturday afternoon when smoke was seen coming from her manufactured home. An attempt was made to put out the fire with a garden hose. A strong southerly wind made it quickly apparent their efforts were in vain. A few Christmas presents were thrown from the burning house before it quickly became impossible to go in because of the smoke.

The Haleyville Fire Department responded to the 9-1-1 call with assistance from the Pebble Fire Department. Haleyville firemen with air packs put out the fire. The home and all contents were destroyed along with the lost of a chihuahua and Brandy's son Justin's pet iguana. Brandy and Justin lived next door to her parents on Macedonia Road. According to Brandy's father Marvin Martin, Justin's main Christmas presents, hidden in a back bedroom were lost. Nine year old Justin and his mother suffered a loss of all their personal effects and clothing to the fire.
